A few things...

1) My best friends just call me "Jackson"...
Three brothers, two sisters, one white mom, one black dad... Upstate NY. Lots of ups, many downs...and we're incredibly close because of it all. I often say, "The only good thing about being a Jackson is being a Jackson." So I ain't giving that up for all the tea in China. Unless of course I marry Hugh Jackman. The name is close enough really, plus he's Australian. Which brings me to my next thing...
2) I'm currently obsessed with Australia...
...and the South Pacific for that matter. So much so that in May of 2010 I left my home of 10 years (New York City), my job of 8 years (Comedy Central), and dropped out of my entire former life (35 years) to see some more of it. New Zealand, The Cook Islands, Japan, Australia all in 7 months time. I would like to have kept going, but a sister's gotta work. I'm splitting my time between New York and..Sydney? I guess? Or maybe it's New York and the rest of the world? I don't know, man. I'm in New York for Memorial Day this year if you wanna barbecue or whatever. On to the next big thing...
3) I am a television writer and producer...
...not the shows. Short form promotion. Like, the commercials for the shows which are called "promos" for anyone who cares-which is probably only TV people. I write and produce television campaigns and work with teams of editors, graphic designers, sound mixers, and tons of other production people to make sure they get on the air. I was staff at Comedy Central for many years, and still work with them today- along with a bunch of other great places like Nickelodeon, IFC, BBC America. Long story short- if you're pissed at a promo for not giving you enough info about the next episode, good chance I made that. I love my job. It's really weird and super fun- which is a perfect segue to the thrilling conclusion...
I AM TOTALLY WEIRD.
Meditation retreats right after super aggressive family cookie competitions. Working for an ad agency one week and counting votes with a bunch of English backpackers for Auckland, New Zealand's elections the next. I hate Shrek movies, but I hate the the smell of pencils even more. I do, say, and think weird shit all the time.
I fought that for a really long time, but just this year it seems to be working in my favor. More acceptance equals more fulfillment. I still tweek from time to time (read: every five minutes) about how odd my life is. Then I remember that my favorite people in the world-the ones I text on New Year's or make out with or haven't blocked on my chat- are completely unique and incredibly specific. I'm convinced they were dropped into my life for a reason. I don't just like people like that, I love people like that. And my number one description of those people (because I got it like that).. "oh my god. I freaking love them. They are so WEIRD!" No reason why I shouldn't be, too.
So this blog is an exploration of how weird I actually am, and should be considered an open invitation to all the weirdos out there who would like to get to know me better.
Like, Hugh Jackman.
I bet you he's totally weird.
