Australia the Movie
Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 02:09PM Someday I'll account for the deafening sound of crickets over here. Actually, it's more like one cricket that somehow gets into your bedroom, andt is so loud you're convinced it must be the size of a dinosaur and it's probably going to try and touch you in the middle of the night. (I hate crickets.) Not today, though. Big movie premiere. Hope you're dressed up.

I've cut together a little home movie/slide show/new installment of the Star Wars series of the Jacksons Australian adventure. The stars of my opus are not the Opera House, Uluru, or even Paul Hogan. Instead, it's pretty much every single person we met along the way. Believe me when I tell you that the best part of traveling isn't the landmarks. It's discovering that no matter where you go, there are always awesome and weird people. For example, the photo above... We had known Mark from Oregon for all of five minutes yet he didn't hesitate to follow my brother's photo direction, "I'll be ecstatic, and you be devastated." After seeing the awesome result my sister said, "He's like us!" Exactly.
From Port Douglas to the Great Ocean Road and all the way back to Sydney, we found more and more people just like us-willing to play along with any games we wanted to play or scenes we wanted to act out. Miracles do happen. Especially in Australia.
All of the pics and video I dropped in here came from trolling Facebook, and begging and pleading for more footage from our friends all over the globe. It was originally supposed to be a cute New Year's message, but ya' know..I've been busy. Plus, because I'm Sarah, I blew this thing way out of proportion. There are still soooooo many things that bug me in this video technically. But I swear to God, my macbook is about to explode, as is my brain. I leave again for Australia next week and, because I'm Sarah, I'm way behind on packing.
Time to let this sucker go.
Ok...5 minutes and 46 seconds of love and respect for some of the best people I have ever met. After the video, please enjoy the director's commentary below.
Bonus Material/Director's Commentary
-The director, editor, writer, producer (me) showered maybe three times in Australia. Also, she only had one shirt.
-Nope, you're not mistaken. That's Lloyd from Entourage with my brother and sister in the Port Douglas section. Lloyd...from Entourage...in Australia. Wasn't weird at all when Lloyd from Entourage yelled, "SARAH AND BEKAH JACKSON, WHAT IS UP!" Lloyd..from Entourage.
-Bekah and Aaron booked the same Great Ocean Road tour I had done the previous year. But had a VERY different experience. Terrible storms and blackouts in hostels. Downed trees requiring the whole group to build make shift ramps so they could keep on moving. Kind of like a new Band of Brothers (and sisters).
-Matt and Pat must have mistaken me for PETER Jackson that last night in Balmain. To this day, I have no idea what scene they wanted me to shoot in their living room or why it required people walking on their knees. I know a ghost was involved... but Hobbits, too?
