Never Can Say Goodbye
Monday, March 28, 2011 at 08:31AM I'm headed to the airport again in two hours for two months in Australia. Some work to do in Sydney for a bit, then some fun to have in a yet to be determined location. I'd love to get to Western Australia if I could swing it, but as my sister reminded me, "Port Douglas is the best place on earth!"..which is true. Who knows, man.
So excited and sort of freaked out. When I watch that video I made of my second trip to AU, I can't believe how entirely different that trip was from the first one. How I didn't know those people even existed, and now I'm stuffing my bag with souvenirs for them when I return. I just have no idea what to expect this time around.
And then of course, there is my ever-present emotionally abusive relationship with New York City. You do not even know how over NYC I was when I left for New Zealand last May. (God, remember that?!) New York and I were like that annoying couple your friends with, who always get a little tipsier than everyone else at the dinner party and fight in front of everyone at the table. Then an hour later you walk in on them making out in the bathroom because they didn't even bother to lock the door. I hate those couples! Now New York and I are that couple.
I'm absolutely head over heels for it when I'm ordering my breakfast sandwich at the deli and I get EXACTLY what I ordered in maybe 5 minutes if they're busy. I love walking out of the subway into a random downpour and having an umbrella in my hand because there are at least 10 dudes selling them for three bucks each. The instant I think, "I need an umbrella." I HAVE an umbrella. That's kind of the definition of magic, right?
But all of the other garbage about New York makes me soooo mad. Like, you know... the garbage. And the stuff that doesn't cost three dollars, but a MILLION dollars. Like, you know..everything else in the city.
One night after work I saw not one, not two, but TEN rats running around the subway tracks. There were so many it looked like they were having fun! It looked like Templeton from Charlotte's Web enjoying his smorgasbord. I always end up storming out the city like some crazy girl at a party hollering at her boyfriend, "F--k you, New York! You ain't s--t!" Then I'll see ya' when I'm in some other city and the pizza tastes all gross and sweet with some absurd topping on it like pumpkin or some bulls--t, and I'm on the phone with my friends, "I don't know, I just missed New York tonight. Was it really that bad?" So dramatic.
For my last month here, I had to take the train to Times Square everyday. This song popped up randomly on my ipod as I came up the stairs on my last day. Or maybe not so randomly because it's bizarrely appropriate.
Enjoy my crazy brain.

You're the best!
NYC will always be here waiting for you! Pizza, rats and all. Says the girl who has the same relationship with NYC.
Have an awesome trip!
